I’ve set myself a challenge: do some kind of movement every day for a year.
The important word is movement. A walk counts. An easy yoga session counts. This isn’t a promise to train hard 365 days in a row, and being ill or injured takes priority over keeping a streak alive.
Here’s the rough plan:
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Monday | Spinning, with a focus on legs and core |
| Tuesday | Arms / upper body |
| Wednesday | HIIT, with the focus varying by session |
| Thursday | Arms or legs, depending on Wednesday |
| Friday | Yoga and/or running |
| Saturday | A gym session, depending on what needs a break |
| Sunday | Skateboarding, cycling, running, fitness, yoga: whatever I feel like |
A plan, not a rulebook
The flexible days are there for a reason. If Wednesday has been demanding on my legs, Thursday doesn’t need to be another hard leg session. If I’m tired, an easy walk is more useful than forcing a workout just to satisfy a calendar.
There’s enough variety here to keep me interested. Spinning, strength training, running, and yoga feel different, and Sunday leaves room for things that are fun without needing to count as “proper training”.
Holidays still count
I don’t need to hunt for a gym while travelling. Walking somewhere new, hiring a bike, going for a run, or doing a short bodyweight session all fit the idea.
The goal is to make movement a normal part of the day, rather than something that only happens when the schedule is perfect. Some days that’ll be a full workout. Some days it’ll be much less. Both belong in the plan.
