For the past few years, I’ve been thinking about the future of IDE’s when combined with Agentic AI and I think Cursor made a great step in the right direction.
To inform those that don’t know: Cursor is a piece of software that programmers can use to write code in. But this version it’s more focussed on an AI doing the heavy lifting instead of the developer.

When you open Cursor 2.0 for the first time. It looks like this, a simple chat bar like you might see in ChatGPT.
But the magic happens when you ask it to do something. For example, let’s ask it to make an Express Hello World app.

As you can see the AI starts doing things. Creating files, running commands and checking it’s own work again if for example the linter works. All in a few seconds.
After that it asks you to review (you can already see the Review button in the above screenshots).

In the review mode it surfaces the code it altered on the right which you can approve, discard or keep all without reading it (for those vibe coders).
Done? It then has a button to create a PR from the Cursor app in the top next to the review button. In my test folder it did not have it because it’s not linked to a repo but you get the idea.
But what if I want to write code like normal? Simply toggle the Agents/Editor button and you are back to VS Code. It’s that simple.
Thanks for reading, will write more when I figure out more things about Cursor 2.0. It’s great.
