Today I committed a few “wip” commits and during one of those commits I broke some code and caused tests to fail. I got curious and wanted to see if an LLM could git bisect and the answer was: yes, very fast!
The LLM (Gemini 3 Flash in this case) quickly started the bisect and ran the relevant tests between each commit change. After a few tries, it found the commit that broke the code and it checked out that exact change and pulled it into the branch I was working on.
Of course, this might not work with front-end changes (except for when you connect it to a MCP like Browser MCP) but for backend that has tests: this works great and I’ll be doing this more and more in the future.
I also with Laravel Tinker, the LLM can also figure it out without tests but haven’t tried that yet.
